APRIL MyHealth International for expats in the Gulf and Europe
MyHealth International is APRIL International's long-term plan for people living abroad, with four levels from Explore to Elite, optional outpatient, and a selectable list of covered countries. IPMIEMEA explains the structure and how it fits the Gulf and Europe.
- Overall annual limits run from €/$500,000 on Explore to €/$4,000,000 or unlimited on Elite.
- Outpatient cover is optional and increases by tier; maternity can only be selected together with the outpatient module.
- You choose the countries covered, including your nationality, with worldwide emergency cover on trips of up to 90 consecutive days.
- Applicants complete a health questionnaire, and APRIL says pre-existing conditions are not systematically covered, so the individual terms decide.
- Sterling is not offered, and UAE residents have a separate APRIL product, MyHEALTH UAE, to compare first.
Four levels and what each adds
MyHealth International is APRIL International's international private medical insurance (IPMI) for expatriates, international assignees, families, retirees, digital nomads and freelancers who want long-term cover. It is a different product from APRIL's country-specific plans; the UAE version has its own page at APRIL UAE.
| Plan | Overall annual limit | Published structure |
|---|---|---|
| Explore | €/$500,000 | Hospitalisation, cancer and evacuation; optional outpatient and pharmacy, dental and other benefits |
| Essential | €/$1,500,000 | Higher core limit; optional outpatient; check-up, dental and optical limits published |
| Extensive | From €/$2,000,000 to unlimited | Enhanced optional outpatient, plus higher dental, optical and maternity limits |
| Elite | From €/$4,000,000 to unlimited | Highest tier; hospitalisation, cancer, evacuation and medical imaging shown at 100% |
The currency, ceiling and benefits that apply to you are defined in APRIL's current Details of Benefits. A benefit shown at 100% is still subject to the policy terms and the overall limit, so read it as "no separate sub-limit" rather than "no limit at all".
Core cover and the optional modules
All four levels include hospitalisation, cancer treatment and medical evacuation and repatriation. Everything else is configured around that core:
- Outpatient cover is optional and increases by tier.
- Dental and optical are generally packaged together, except on Explore.
- Maternity can only be selected with outpatient cover, so a family planning a pregnancy needs the outpatient module as well.
- Deductibles and detailed benefit limits vary with the configuration you choose.
Our guide to inpatient versus outpatient cover explains why the optional outpatient module is usually the decision that shapes both the premium and day-to-day usefulness.
Choosing your covered countries
APRIL's approach to geography is different from the usual "worldwide or worldwide excluding USA" choice. The application lets you select the countries you want covered, and your country of nationality can be included. On top of that, APRIL describes worldwide cover for accidents and emergencies during trips of up to 90 consecutive days, except in excluded countries. The chosen area and the excluded-country rules must be confirmed in the issued documents.

Claims, access to care and the issuing entities
- Easy Claim supports paperless reimbursement requests.
- APRIL describes direct settlement with hospitals so that eligible members do not pay hospital costs up front.
- Unlimited telehealth consultations are included.
- Multilingual assistance is available around the clock.
- APRIL publishes access to more than two million partner healthcare professionals; that is APRIL's own network statement, not an independently audited count.
Applicants complete a health questionnaire. APRIL says pre-existing conditions are not systematically covered, so the individual terms offered after medical review are what matter; our guide to pre-existing conditions explains what to look for in those terms. Exclusions, deductibles, pre-authorisation rules and eligibility sit in the General Terms and Conditions, product information sheet and Details of Benefits.
On who stands behind the plan: APRIL states that the product is designed and managed by APRIL International Care France, with Groupama Gan Vie covering medical and contingency benefits and CHUBB European Group SE covering repatriation and personal liability. Confirm the entities on your issued contract.
Using MyHealth International from the Gulf or Europe
Two features make this plan easy to map onto IPMIEMEA's countries. The first is currency: limits are published in euros or US dollars, so a resident of Spain, Portugal or Germany can hold a euro plan while a resident of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar or Bahrain may prefer dollars. Sterling is not listed, which United Kingdom residents should weigh.
The second is the selectable country list. A European working in the Gulf can choose their Gulf state and their country of nationality, and rely on the 90-day emergency cover for other trips, rather than paying for a full worldwide area. The reverse works for a retiree in Portugal who still spends time in the UK. Whether that beats a conventional worldwide-excluding-USA plan depends on how you travel; our guide to Europe regional versus worldwide cover sets out the questions to ask.
In the Gulf, residents generally need a locally compliant policy, usually arranged by the employer, and an international plan is bought as a top-up or by people outside the local scheme. For the UAE specifically, APRIL sells a separate local product, so compare APRIL UAE before choosing MyHealth International. Check the current rule where you live and read our guide to mandatory Gulf health insurance and top-up cover.
Who MyHealth International suits
A good fit for someone who wants to build a plan from a hospital-and-evacuation core, choose exactly which countries are covered, and pay in euros or dollars, with telehealth and direct hospital settlement built in. Retirees and self-employed people in southern Europe, and Gulf-based Europeans who travel home regularly, are typical profiles.
Compare alternatives if you want a conventional worldwide area with no country list to manage, if you need sterling pricing, or if you have medical history and want to see how a moratorium-based insurer would treat it. Nomi prices APRIL beside the rest of the market for your details, and the insurer hub lists the other options.
